Social Media in 2009

December 30, 2008

The battle in different fields of social media in 2008 has become severe. From users point of view there is just too much information. This post has been motivated by Sarah’s post at readwriteweb on social media predictions for 2009, and I will bring my thoughts.

Additionally to SEO friendly and social-media-friendly, in 2009 it seems you’ll need social-profile-friendly content as well. There are speculations that even Google will pay more attention to live conversation, i.e social sites and reward websites that are getting link juice from social profiles. That means that particular profiles at social network sites can have higher value at Google.

In networking world in 2009 we can expect many websites, not only tech and social media blogs, to implement Facebook Connect and Google Friend Connect. Google Friend Connect can be better to get the widest reach of new registered users engaging them more with the site. With Facebook Connect users can share actions back on Facebook. This way their Facebook friends will easily be able to click back to the website that carried out Facebook Connect.

With too much info it’s time to be selective or to use specialized tools to keep in touch with different services.

I have a lot of plans for 2009. Until now I monitored what is happening in social media world, blogging about it here on the site, and I have to say I’ve been impressed with different projects. Now, I have some ideas and hope to realize them in coming years. The idea is to go from one man band and to form a team, which will lead to the site transformation, something quite different from the present look and purpose. Of course, we can go with new domain name, but then this site will stay neglected. It’s something to discuss.

In near future, actually in the first half of January 2009, I will publish toolbar for bloggers. It is something I built for myself by collecting few useful blogging tools, and I’ve been using it few months. At the moment, it’s a little bit messy and probably only I can orient well. So, one day after New Year’s Eve I will adjust and arrange the toolbar, create video tutorial for easier catch up and bring it to public.

I wish happy and successful 2009 to all online business owners and bloggers.
