Increase Blog Traffic
July 11, 2008
„ A great site without traffic is like owning a beautiful huge store in the middle of nowhere! “
Yes, it’s MUCH about getting traffic to the web site. I am not saying it’s all about it, because you need quality content to offer as well. You see, website owner can deliver wonderful idea, amazing products, but without traffic, his business is death. So, let me say again….ITS MUCH ABOUT TRAFFIC!!! You can have fancy landing page, even forum for your website, or whatever, but without traffic, you are without a business. How to increase and get constant traffic to the blog?
If you’re just starting, you should know that blogging is a great way to increase traffic. When you are writing on a regular basis your blog will drive traffic automatically (ping and posts submission to RSS Directories). And besides that automation here are few good ways to promote your blog:
First, blog SEO
Vitally important is to optimize properly your blog for search engines. If you are new to this, I have made a weblog post how to avoid mistakes and avoid losing SEO page rank. Also I recommend putting related images to every post. You see, images are totally different type of promotion and traffic, because Google and other engines are using particular robots only for “alternative text” behind images. Discover here how properly to optimize images for your blog, and to increase traffic that way. Don’t forget to submit your blog to Google, Yahoo and MSN (although if your blog is totally new, maybe is better to wait month or two, until there is some content on the website). And above averting, if you’re using WordPress as a publishing platform or just starting with blogging watch my free WordPress SEO video tutorials (you will see which plugins are important for SEO optimization, correct permalink structure and similar matter with purpose to increase blog traffic).
Second, Article Submission
To article directories you can submit blog posts, but its better if you spin a little those articles or submit completely new. Why would you do that? Quite simple, in the submitted article, you will include a link to your web site. Submitted to many directories you are getting many backlinks and it will boost your search engine
ranking. Also it will provide direct traffic from people who visits those article directories.
Here are some major directories to submit your articles to:
Article marketing is a proven way to get traffic. It needs some time to provide results, but eventually, if done correctly and often, it will substantially increase traffic to the site.
Third, blog communities:
These sites are great way to connect with other bloggers and to use them in promotional marketing. Use tags to find your market.
Fourth, blogging traffic exchanges:
(You place widgets on your blog sidebar pointing to other blogs, and at the same time, the other bloggers are aiming to your blog).
These websites can drive traffic away from your blog, but at the same time will drive to it. Don’t worry, just concentrate on quality content. Find here some tips and techniques for making the content valuable. Also keep in mind that there is saying in internet marketing world regarding traffic “The more you send the more it returns to you”.
Anyway, these sites may not be an effective traffic generator for you. Test it. You won’t know unless you try it. If it doesn’t benefit you after a trial, you can always uninstall widgets.
Besides blogging exchanges, also common traffic exchanges, like Trafficswarm and Linkreferral, can increase traffic. They can be used for common website, but as well blog promotion.
Finally, Web 2.0 sites
There is a right and wrong way for web 2.0 promotion. I am creating the whole section about Social Network, Social News and Social Bookmarking web sites. It will be ready in a month or two. Mean time, here is one neat tool for video promotion – Tubemogul. If you are making videos for your weblog, Tubemogul will submit your video to around 15 different video sites.
This is end of the 6th step from How to create a successful blog. Happy blogging!
Catchy Headlines and Linkbait tips
July 11, 2008
How important are headlines for a blog post?
The more you focus on readers benefits in your headline, the more readers you’ll have. Quite simple, with good catchy spiced headline you are getting people attention, and more likely they will click on the headline which is pointing some solution to the problem or needful benefit.
Here are some examples of catchy beneficial headlines which you can use like patterns for your weblog:
And here is a tool for emotional and compelling production of headlines and headings:
Plus, if we, for a second, focus on the search engine optimization for headlines, keyword stuffing (keyword overuse) will not lead you far away. It still needs to be quite catchy and spicy as possible, because search engine result pages are places where people will browse in their search to find something on the particular topic. And guess which headline the most people will click on? Of course, the one which is pointing the most benefit for them! Want a proof? Here is a video from seobook on headline topic:
Oh, by the way, with headings you are scoring at search engines, so you should have at least one on the page.
Linkbait topics
You know, linkbait is something on your web site that causes someone to link to you. To be buzz worth,
blog post has to have at least one element of these:

- Videos,
- Thought Leadership,
- How to (educational),
- Something new to the market,
- Controversial,
- Humor,
- Sweet,
- Taboo,

- Anticipation.
And here are some examples of linkbaits:

- Social news,
- Good links,
- More comments techniques,

How to bookmark a part of the page?
June 14, 2008
I want to share really cool tool. You are probably using bookmarking sites to save interesting pages, articles or whole sites. But what about when you want to clip just a part of the text, one paragraph or just one sentence? Fortunately there is a solution in the form of web 2.0 tool. It is very useful. Instead of bookmarking whole web page, with this web 2.0 tool you can clip exactly what you want, and at the same time to have organized those memos. Try Clipmarks by yourself, but before that let me tell you how easy is for use.
How Much Mozilla Firefox can be better?
June 12, 2008
I just read an article on readwriteweb about release of Firefox 3 from Mozilla, expected to be on 17th June. There is more explanation on what we can expect about new release, and you can read whole article there. I just picked the most important part, and that is the list of improvements. Looks amazing!
Image and Photo Edit in Easy Way
May 15, 2008
I have used online tools for images resizing. But, recently I discovered a perfect web 2.0 tool for full photo editing. Its better and advanced than any other I used before. You can put your images online and fix it and adjust it as you like. Its called Picnik. And the best part it can be synchronized with Mozilla Firefox as add-on. Bear with me, because I’m going to show you how.
First, at Picnik You can add your image from all around the web. Get it directly from MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, Photobucket, or you can just start from your own album from your computer or from web cam. Quite simple.
Widgetized bookmarking tool - speedymarks
April 28, 2008
Speedymarks is one more bookmarking and web 2.0 tool, which I found useful. It enables user to store commonly used web addresses in the form of widgets. It is similar to social bookmarking, but here you are bookmarking site as a widget, which provide a preview of the bookmarked site. Ok, picture is worth more than thousand words:

Should I save speedymarks as a home page? Going once, going twice…SOLD! This gives me just one click (clicking home button in browser) from several different frequently used sites. They are now listed as widgets at my homepage. And Yahoo, which was my homepage until this change, is now one click further. Not so far.
With this web 2.0 tool, probably, you can display as many as you like websites, but I suggest keeping it to 10-15 most used. And here is why. Just like I explained for sputtr, here is the situation pretty the same. So, just like at Sputtr, work of speedymarks is based on browsing cookies history. So, if you delete your cookies, that way you will lose your bookmarked widgets, too. So, I suggest keeping speedymarks standard and stored list of sites in notepad. That way, even if you delete browsing cookies, you will easily get your sites back.
You can find pros and cons here, but speedymarks seems pretty useful bookmarking and web 2.0 tool for me. The point is that you will have nice collection of commonly used sites at homepage. So, Thumbs up!
This is update >>> now is possible to login and save widgets that way.

Can you score buzz with Yahoo?
April 20, 2008
You will not believe, we have a new bookmarking buzz site. Probably every day, there is a new one. Ok, zip it up! Here is it what is all about.
Yahoo has started a new buzz community - Yahoo! Buzz. It is similar to digg, reddit, or other bookmarks. You place a little button “buzz up” at the bottom of your page, just like “sphinn” “bookmark this”, “share this” buttons. With this bookmark visitors can “buzz up” your story and that way get better rankings on yahoo buzz up network. And that is possibility to run more traffic to the blog or site.
You can buzz up a good story on a news site, a great video, or a terrific blog. A story is ranked based on its buzz score. The buzz score is calculated from votes and sharing via email to friends. And lets not forget, the best for publishers is that the best stories will be published on Yahoo! home page, what can be really stimulating.
As a matter of fact Yahoo is gigantic online network and certainly they know to launch such a community, but we need to wait to see will this be a new dynamite. For now the button is great looking :).
![]()
At the moment they do not accept new publishers, but there is a state that buzz up will be open for new publishers very soon, and it is possible to join mailing list on that.
