Obama vs Mccain in Social Marketing

November 12, 2008

What was the main factor in American election’s final score? Was is it a race, chose of vice presidents, burden of previous Republican administration, elan of younger candidate… but what about social media marketing? Have you seen all the posts in blogosphere or on Digg?

All other factors were important, but social marketing made the big impact on latest American election. Obama and his team, obviously, reach the younger population with social media and won the race in this field. Here is the blogosphere chart. You see, bloggers mentioning Obama more than Mccain.

This election was important, probably for the whole world, not only for USA. I do not live in the USA and politic is not my first interest, but you couldn’t not to notice all the argue in online social world. Volume of social marketing campaign, on one side, and people bite the bait on the other, was so large. Just for example, if you logged to Digg, almost every time one of the top stories was about American election.

This is the screenshot from Trendrr, showing the number of videos mentioning Barack Obama.

If you would like to make more impact in social media world you can use social media guide. On the other hand, political awarness is significant. Ancient Greeks labeled as idiots people that were not voting. I’m not sure about voting, but it’s good to be aware of political abuse. In that purpuse I can recommend Zeitgeist, the movie that you can watch online for free, or purchase the disc. It is educational and also political.
